Career Pathways provide students, starting in 9th grade, with a sequence of courses, both academic and career/technical, in various career clusters. Pathways guide students in coursework and career enhancement opportunities so they are prepared to enter post secondary education and employment.
As the vision for career and technical education (CTE) becomes more career focused and intent upon combining academics and employability skills with occupational knowledge and skills, career clusters are becoming the answer. They organize both academic and occupational knowledge skills into a coherent course sequence. For background information and to see the sixteen career clusters developed at the national level, go to www.careerclusters.org.
Many high schools have developed their own Career Pathways. Check with your School-to-Career Coordinator to find out if your school has Career Pathways.
