The Testing Center at Northcentral Technical College provides a variety of testing services for current and potential NTC students, faculty and staff.

Admissions Testing (available at all NTC campus locations)
  • Walk-in Hours for the Wausau campus:
    • Monday, Tuesday, Thursday: 8:00am – 3:00pm
    • Wednesday: 1:00pm – 5:00pm
  • Accuplacer – This test measures a student’s academic skill level in the areas of arithmetic, algebra, reading comprehension and sentence skills.  The results of the Accuplacer are used by staff to determine course selection.  The Accuplacer is not a pass/fail test, but it is very important for someone to do their best on these tests so that they have an accurate measure of their academic skills.
  • Windows and Computer Concepts – These tests are required for the IT programs and measure basic Windows and computer skills
  • There is no fee for the Windows or Computer Concepts tests
  • Virtual College – students entering into our Virtual College programs will also be required to take a Computer Skills Placement (CSP) test as part of the Accuplacer.  Please let your proctor know if you are interested in Virtual College
  • Fees: $20 for Accuplacer, no charge for Windows or Computer Concepts

Apprenticeship Testing (available only at Wausau campus)
  • Apprenticeship test battery consists of five parts: mechanical reasoning, spatial relations, arithmetic, algebra, and reading comprehension
  • Mechanical Reasoning – the Bennett Mechanical Comprehension Test (BMCT) is the most widely used and trusted assessment of mechanical aptitude.  The test measures mechanical reasoning ability and working knowledge of basic mechanical operations and physical laws
  • Spatial Relations – the Minnesota Paper Revised Form Board (MPRFB) is designed to measure aspects of the mechanical ability requiring the capacity to visualize and manipulate objects in space

Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) (available only at Wausau campus)ASE Logo
  • ASE is an independent, non-profit organization, and since 1972 have worked to improve the quality of vehicle repair and service by testing and certifying repair and service professionals.  Auto technicians and other professionals who want to become ASE certified can take one or more of ASE’s 40+ exams.  The exams are grouped into specialties such as automobile, medium/heavy truck, truck equipment, school bus, collision repair, and more.
  • You must register with ASE and provide payment of tests to obtain your ASE identification number.  Once you have registered, you should contact our office for test dates and to schedule an appointment.

College Level Examination Program (CLEP) (available only at Wausau campus)
  • CLEP tests offer students an opportunity to earn credit by examination.  There are 33 CLEP exams that cover material taught in courses that most students take as requirements in the first two years of college
  • While CLEP is sponsored by the College Board, only colleges may grant credit toward a degree.  Colleges’ CLEP policies differ – some accept credit for a few exams while others accept credit for all of them.

GED/HSED Start Session (available at all NTC campus locations)
  • The Start Session is an orientation to the GED/HSED testing program.  You will spend about 1.5 to 2 hours learning about the testing process and completing the appropriate paperwork.  After all paperwork is in, you will be eligible to schedule your first test

GED/HSED (available at all NTC campus locations)
  • The 2002 Series of GED tests will need to be completed before the new series is rolled out on January 1, 2013.  If you or someone you know has started their GED they must complete the tests in the 2002 series.  The 2002 series cannot be combined with the new series in 2014.  See below for information about the new computer based tests. 
  • The GED test battery consists of five tests that you must pass to earn your credential: mathematics, writing, reading, social studies and science
  • Students wanting to complete their HSED have the option of taking the Health and/or Civics tests

GED Tests on Computer (available only at Wausau campus)ged testing
  • If working on a computer is more convenient for you, you may opt to take the 2002 Series of GED tests online.  You must still complete before the end of 2013 and pass all five tests to earn your credential. 
  • The GED test battery consists of five tests that you must pass to earn your credential: mathematics, writing, reading, social studies and science
  • Fees: Each test is $27 and includes your diploma fee

Spanish GED (available only at Wausau campus)
  • For our Spanish speaking community, we offer the GED tests in Spanish once per month.  Students wanting to complete their GED in Spanish must still come to an orientation session before being able to start testing.

Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS) (available only at Wausau campus)
  • Microsoft Office Specialist exams are based on globally recognized standards that demonstrate computing skills and help to advance career prospects in a competitive job market.  The MOS certifications are primarily for office workers who use Microsoft Office programs as a vital part of their job functions.
  • You must have a voucher prior to your test date.  They can be purchased from NTC’s bookstore
  • Exams are available for Microsoft Office 2007 and Microsoft Office 2010

Pearson VUE (available only at Wausau campus) pearson vue testing
  • Pearson VUE provides a full suite of services from test development to data management, and delivers exams through the world’s most comprehensive and secure network of test centers in 175 countries
  • All registration is done through Pearson VUE’s website and your test provider 
  • Payment must be made at the time of scheduling

Proctor for non-NTC students (available at all NTC campus locations)
  • If you are a distance student at another college or need to take an exam for a certification course, you can come to our Testing Center to get your exams proctored
  • There is no fee for students in the Wisconsin Technical College System.  For non-WTCS students, the fee is $25 per exam

Transcripts and Test Scores
  • If you need an official copy of your GED/HSED transcript, Accuplacer scores, or Apprenticeship scores, please fill out this form and return it to our office with the $5 fee
  • Transcripts are normally processed within 2-4 business days
  • For immediate processing, a $10 fee is charged
  • Test Score Release Form
